Control-Pest.com, Inc. was founded by Eric Melin in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2003. At the time, Eric was focused on SpiderSplat Consulting, Inc., a Search Engine Marketing and Lead Gen Firm he created in 1997 BG (i.e. Before Google). "Spiders" in this context refer to Search Engine Indexing Software. Clients want to get ahead of Competitors in Search Engine Rankings...and "Splat" like paintballs (ask about the sponsorship of the Harvard Democrat vs Republican Debate Club paintball match!) ...however Eric was getting hundreds of calls for people seeking Pest Control rather than corporate SEO/SEM/PPC lead generation services. Seeing an untapped market need he purchased: Control-Pest.com to build a business specifically to provide a simple service people have needed throughout human history. "Pest Control" is one of the most desirable commercial search keywords. Controlling much newer Pests, such as "big tech" and Google itself is a different story!
Since 1901 Orkin has been the world leader in Pest Control. In the 1960's a smaller Rollins acquired much larger Orkin via a leveraged buyout - the first of the kind on Wall Street and the subject of future Harvard MBA classroom studies. Rollins then began its long history of growth-by-acquisition, adding dozens of pest control brands to its portfolio. Rollins stock is now traded on NYSE: (ROL) with a market cap of $21 Billion. Not yet quite big enough to acquire Google at 1.5 Trillion without a wee bit of leverage.
